Our relationship with Air by Lena Schmidt

Air energy is related to innovation, creativity, ideas, expanding your mind, and being mindful. When we are at harmony with the Air element we feel expansive, expressive, and open to new solutions. Practice gratitude for all that Air provides: fresh oxygen to nourish the lungs and blood and, of course, the winds of change! Connect to the Air:

On your mat:
Focus on your breath throughout your yoga practice (if you notice you’re holding your breath, that’s your cue to back out of the pose and begin again)
Practice Apanasana and twisting poses to squeeze out excess air
Practice Pranayama
Connect to the Heart/Anahata Chakra and wear the color green
Connect to the Throat/Vishuddha Chakra and wear the color turquoise

Off your mat:
Connect with the Air element by taking deep breaths throughout the day
Get some fresh air! Go for a hike or take a walk on the beach
Spare the air and reduce pollution by walking, biking, or taking public transit when possible

Volunteer for a local environmental organization or donate to a national one

Think about: Practice pranayama for a few minutes each day this week. Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. Observe your natural breath rhythm. Practice Nadi Shodhana, Ujjayi, or Three-Part Breath (or another pranayama you enjoy). Release. Observe your body and mind.
