Class Descriptions

Yoga is divided into 8 branches. One branch deals with breathing and various physical postures (asanans). This is called Hatha yoga.

Listed below are some of the modern styles of Hatha yoga that we offer. All styles use the same basic postures. The difference centers on the intensity and duration of the postures and the role of breathing. Room temperatures can also vary.

Ashtanga

Also known as power yoga, this is rigorous practice places equal emphasis on strength, flexibility and stamina. Ashtanga is characterized by a continual flow of action to create heat. This heating produces the cleansing or detoxifying effect associated with this method. The room is kept at a comfortable temperature. This fixed routine provides a full-body workout.

Gentle Hatha

A hatha yoga class that focuses on postures to awaken and relax your body and mind. Soothing music, rejuvenating postures and deep relaxation combine to refresh your body and mind. The room is kept at a comfortable temperature. All levels.

Hatha Yoga

Embodies the essence of all yoga styles. Learn the essential postures (asanas) for health, strength, flexibility, balance and happiness. Explore a wide variety of asanas including: inversion, sun-salutation, breath control (pranayama) and deep relaxation. The pace is relaxed. The room is kept at a comfortable temperature.

Morning Hatha

A hatha yoga class developed at the Pilgrimage of the Heart that focuses on postures to awaken and enliven your body for the day. The room is kept at a comfortable temperature.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa yoga links breath to movement. Poses are held for 5-10 breaths, before transitioning to the next posture in synchronicity with your breathing. The practice revolves around sun salutation. The focus is on strength, balance and cardiovascular endurance.

Meditation

Learn the ancient art of meditation. Find calm and harmony amidst your daily activities. You will learn techniques for concentration, relaxation, visualization and meditation. The class is ongoing (you can start at any time) and takes roughly 4 sessions to learn. All levels.

Open Practice Time

Drop by the studio during open hours and work on your own practice at your own pace. An instructor is available to offer advice and suggestions. This is a great time to build your personal practice in a supportive atmosphere. Only $5.00. No charge for monthly-unlimited members.
